Repeat Writers - What Day 1 Case Should You Write - in June or Sept. 2026?

A common question surrounding Capstone 1, is which Capstone 1 case to write, if you are a repeat writer writing the CFE in May or September.

Let's look at the options and discuss the pros and cons for each one. (Hopefully this will not happen, but the discussion below is assuming you are unsuccessful in Day 1).

In the June 2026 CFE, there are 2 Capstone 1 cases being offered - either Viviana's Trattoria Ltd. (version 2, as this was written in May 2025) or Karnat Bread Company (new case - i.e. version 1).

If you are a repeat writer from Sept. 2025, it will make more sense to write Karnat Bread Company, as Viviana's Trattoria Ltd. will not be written again.  Therefore, if you are unsuccessful in June 2026, you will not have an opportunity to write this case again.  However, if you write Karnat Bread Company in June 2026 and are unsuccessful, you may have the opportunity to write the 2nd version of Kingsdale in September 2027.  Normally the Day 1, version 1 for the May/June CFE is provided a second time in May/June of the following year. However as there is no May CFE in 2027, it is possible, (though not certain) that there will be another opportunity to write this case in September. 2027. 

Also if you write version 1 - Karnat Bread Company, there will be a number of practice cases that provided with the Capstone 2 material that you can write in preparation for the Day 1 case on the CFE.  

If you are a repeat writer from May 2025, it will probably make sense to write Viviana's Trattoria Ltd., as you should be familiar with the case from May 2025.  Just be aware that you will have to write a new case in the future, if you are unsuccessful in June 2026.

So, for repeat writers from Sept. 2025, write Karnat Bread Company Ltd. in June 2026.  Repeat writers from May 2025, are better off writing writing Viviana's Trattoria Ltd.

Now, if you are writing the CFE in Sept. 2026, the choice is between Meadowlark Entertainment Inc. (version 2) and Singular Textiles Corporation Inc. (version 1).

If you are a repeat writer from May 2025, it will make much more sense to write Singular Textiles Corporation Inc. as Singular Textiles Corporation Inc. will appear again and you don't know either of them, going in. Also for Singular Textiles Corporation Inc. a number of practice cases will be available.

If you are a repeat writer from Sept. 2025, it will probably make more sense to write Meadowlark Entertainment Inc. (Vs. 2), as you are already familiar with the case from Sept. 2025.
